GIRLS CO.U14 FINAL
The County League Division 4 final which was played in Kilcummin on Sunday 19th June saw Killarney neighbours Legion and Spa take to the field. It was a beautiful evening with perfect playing conditions. Both teams had met in the first round of the league when Legion were victorious.Spa showed considerable improvement during the league, and finished second to Legion on the table,so an excellent game was anticipated. The first half was a close affair with numerous scoring chances being created by both teams. The Legion girls were somewhat more efficient however in converting their opportunities with some excellent points being taken by Elizabeth Mohan, Rebecca Murphy and Isabelle Corridon. The first goal of the match was scored by Dominika Gwizdzinska after some excellent play amongst the forwards. In this period also Emma Murphy and Sinead Tangney were prominent in the forward division with excellent runs and tigerish tackling.Andrea McCarthy also won lots of possession and was excellent in feeding other forwards with passes resulting in scores.A strong midfield performance by the Spa girls, particularly Niamh Hickey, ensured that chances were also created for their forwards and they were rewarded with a great goal by Saoirse Holland late in the first half.Legion responded immediately however with two points by Elizabeth Mohan and Isabelle Corridon to maintain the gap between the teams. The first half ended with Legion ahead by 6 points on a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-1. Both teams made some changes in the second half which proved to be significant. The Spa goalkeeper,Linda Bruggner, was moved to midfield and she was central in leading some attacks straight through the Legion defence. However the Legion girls stood firm and limited scoring opportunities. Two goals were conceded during this period, one from the penalty spot and both scored by Linda Bruggner. The Legion goalkeeper,Chloe Enright and full back line of Treasa Sheehan,Sophie Smith and Sorcha McCluskey and second half substitute Kiah Doona marshalled the last line of defence very well and made some excellent clearances to find Legion’s ever-busy half forward division. The Legion midfield pairing of Isabelle Corridon and Ellie Davies along with the excellent half back line of Leanne Pierce,Amy Coffey and Sarah Leahy began to dominate the mid-field area and provided plenty of opportunities for the forwards to exploit.Shania Costello,Eve Coffey and Fiadhna Tangney proved too hot for the Spa defence to handle and kept the score board ticking over.In the end Legion ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of Legion 4-21,Spa 3-3. Congratulations to both teams and especially to the Legion girls and their mentors on such an entertaining match. It was also great to see so many family members present to support the girls. Thanks also to the officials and to Kilcummin GAA Club for their excellent facilities.

SENIOR CO.LEAGUE

Legion 1-5 Aunascaul 0-14 Played away in difficult conditions the seniors lost out to Aunascaul in a game that saw a re-organised Legion side take the field. Two disallowed goals and a missed penalty were to prove costly for the Legion but on the plus side it saw the introduction to senior football of Ciaran Lyne,Killian Treacy,Aiden Slattery and Danny Sheahan - all of whom acquitted themselves well and made it one of our youngest ever senior teams. It was one of those days when things don't quite go your way and luck is at a premium nonetheless Shaun Keane,Alan O Neill as well as Nigel Shefflin who once again found the net all maintained their good form of late.

U14 BOYS E.K.LEAGUE
Legion 6-10 Gneeveguilla 5-4
As the scoreline suggests there wasn't a dull moment in this game between two skillful sides as all out attack was the order of the day.Gneeveguilla had the brighter start and were more comfortable on the ball but once Peter McCarthy struck for two goals the Legion gradually got the upper hand.Conor Culloty hit a third from a free and with Robert Leane,Anthony Breen,Lee Callaghan and Mike Pierce all showing well they kept up the pressure and as the half wore on the standard of play from the Legion got better. The Sliabh Luachra lads made them earn it as they replied with two goals of their own,but just as they had narrowed the gap David Corlett got on the end of a nice move to add a fourth goal for the homeside to leave the score at the break Legion 4-4 Gneeveguilla 2-3.Darragh Doherty who had a great game at fullforward opened the scoring with a well taken pt.at the start of the second period buile t once again Gneeveguilla answered with a goal but this was cancelled out by the best goal of the game from Robert Leane. To keep up the pattern of the game Gneeveguilla got their 5th.goal and got the deficit down to 3 pts.but as before the Legion responded well and Derek Schwab got the Legions 6th.goal and this was followed by a series of pts.to open a winning margin. The backs were well served by Johnny Coffey and the repositioned Peter McCarthy as the saw off the challenge of a game Gneeveguilla side.Congratulations also to Anthony Breen and Robert Leane who have been called up to the Kerry u14 development squad.
